New Leaders At Harrisburg Animal Shelter Reportedly Double Adoption Rates

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area has reportedly more than doubled their adoption rates after new leadership took over is now running the operation. The shelter placed 127 animals into homes in January, compared with monthly adoption rates of about 74 per month under the former operators. Under new policies and procedures, the shelter announced it achieved a 94-percent "live-release rate," last month. That rate includes adoptions, pets returned to owners, transfers to rescues and other live outcomes. The new leaders say they want to make Harrisburg's shelter a "no-kill" facility, which involves saving at least 90 percent of the animals that they care for.
