DEL TO CLOSE BEACH BARS AHEAD OF JULY 4TH WEEKEND

If your Fourth of July holiday plans include a trip to a Delaware beach, you won't be allowed to hang out and drink in bars.

Governor John Carney's delayed additional reopening plans due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases.

Delaware Division of Public Health director Dr. Karyl Rattay says cases began to rise after hundreds of young people flocked to the shore for senior week, and now, they should be tested.

Under the new guidelines, businesses cannot allow patrons to sit or stand at a bar beginning on Friday. Restaurants may open the bar to prepare drinks for diners seated at tables.

The restrictions apply to taprooms and restaurant bar service in Lewes, Fenwick island as well as Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany Beaches.
