Mickey Guyton shared a sweet selfie with her late grandmother as she paid tribute to her on Sunday evening (January 29). The “Remember Her Name” artist wrote in a heartfelt tweet: “Life is such a weird thing. We don’t ask to be here and we don’t ask to leave. All we can do is live and my grandmother lived it well. Rest easy Mama Dee. We will see you again.”
Twitter users offered their condolences as Guyton opened up about her grandmother. Many promised to pray for Guyton and her family, assured her that her grandmother was “so proud” of her and other sympathetic messages.
Guyton, who was named TIME’s 2022 Breakthrough Artist of the Year, has often shared her love for her family and her faith, including in her music. She recently debuted a nostalgic duet with Lukas Graham, “Home Movies,” paying tribute to sentimental memories from childhood. She also released a few solo tracks, including her latest one, “I Still Pray.” The inspiring anthem shows that “no matter what you believe in, prayer is a universal language,” she said at the time. “Sometimes when you don’t know what to do or how to help someone, you pray. I hope that it brings you some inspiration in those moments when you need it.”
