165 Prison Residents Relocated Due to Dauphin County Fire

A fire at Dauphin County Prison in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night (April 1) led to the temporary relocation of 165 prison residents. The fire began in a plumbing chase and was quickly extinguished by prison staff. Fortunately, no residents were injured, but three staff members were taken to the hospital for potential smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported around 7:15 p.m. at the prison located on 501 Mall Road. According to Local 21 News, the residents were moved to a designated safe area within the building as a precaution. Emergency services, including Life Team EMS, South Central EMS, and Susquehanna Township EMS, evaluated the relocated residents.

The Swatara Township Police Department is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire. The Swatara Township Fire Department confirmed that the fire was contained to the plumbing chase and was managed effectively by the prison staff. The incident is still under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
