Big Lots is reopening more than 130 stores in the southern and eastern United States, with the first wave of stores opening on Thursday (May 1). This comes after nine stores reopened earlier this month as part of a deal with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, which allowed Variety Wholesalers to acquire hundreds of Big Lots locations while retaining the original branding.

The reopening stores are spread across 12 states, including Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. According to The Hill, a second wave of stores is set to open on May 15, covering 13 states, including Florida and Mississippi.

Variety Wholesalers CEO Lisa Seigies expressed excitement about the reopening, stating, "The customer response to the newly expanded assortment of fresh inventory and great deals has been overwhelmingly positive." She emphasized the company's commitment to providing value with new apparel, home essentials, and famous brands.

In addition to Variety Wholesalers, other retailers have acquired former Big Lots locations. Ocean State Job Lot announced plans to purchase 15 locations in states like New Jersey and New York, while Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is set to acquire 40 former Big Lots stores.

The reopening of these stores marks a significant comeback for Big Lots, offering customers a refreshed shopping experience with a wide range of products.
