In 2024, Pennsylvanians lost over $400 million due to cybercrimes, according to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). More than 27,000 residents reported incidents, placing Pennsylvania among the top 10 states for both complaints and financial losses. The most common cybercrimes were phishing, extortion, and investment scams. Cryptocurrency fraud also surged, with over 149,000 complaints nationwide, resulting in $9.3 billion in losses, a 66% increase from 2023.

Wayne A. Jacobs, special agent in charge of FBI Philadelphia, emphasized the importance of vigilance, stating, "The threat is real—and growing." He urged individuals and corporations to report suspected internet crimes to the FBI at ic3.gov.

The IC3's annual report, which aggregates data from 859,532 complaints, shows a 33% increase in losses from 2023, totaling over $16 billion nationwide. The report aims to raise public awareness and improve the FBI's ability to combat cybercrime by sharing intelligence with partners and safeguarding communities.
