The historic Pagoda in Reading, Pennsylvania, is set to go dark starting tonight as crews begin major upgrades to its electrical system. The Reading Pagoda Foundation announced that the power shutdown is necessary to stabilize the 116-year-old structure. The project is expected to take five to six months to complete.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, the power shutoff was moved to Monday (June 2) to accommodate final preparations. The upgrades aim to replace and enhance the aging electrical infrastructure, ensuring the Pagoda's continued safety and stability.

According to WFMZ-TV, scaffolding is already in place as construction begins. The foundation is asking the public to avoid the area during the renovation period for safety reasons.
