Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman stated that Israel should have targeted Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during recent airstrikes in Tehran. In a Fox News interview on Tuesday (June 17), Fetterman responded "100 percent" when asked if Khamenei should have been a target. He emphasized that the Iranian leadership should be "taken out," drawing parallels to Israel's past actions against Hezbollah leaders.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran intensified after Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iran's nuclear facilities and missile sites, resulting in the deaths of several top officials and scientists. Iran has retaliated with its own airstrikes. Fetterman, a strong supporter of Israel, expressed his views in a social media post on Monday, declaring that "time's up on Iran's evil regime" and its nuclear weapons program.
According to Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not rule out targeting Khamenei, although no current plans exist to do so. President Trump also mentioned that while Khamenei is an "easy target," there are no immediate plans to take him out. The president has not ruled out potential U.S. involvement in the conflict, stating that it is "possible we could get involved," but not at this moment.
