The Penn State Nittany Lions and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers men's basketball teams are set to renew their in-state rivalry with a game scheduled for December 21 at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This matchup marks the first time the two teams will face each other since 2017, when Penn State secured an 85-54 victory at the Legends Classic in Brooklyn.

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel emphasized the significance of the game, stating, "Pitt and Penn State is a natural rivalry that makes a great deal of sense to play in the current collegiate landscape." He added that the trip to Hershey will provide an opportunity for Panthers fans across the state to see the team in action and will be a great way to kick off the holiday season.

The rivalry between Pitt and Penn State dates back to 1906 and is one of the most played in each program's history, despite having only nine matchups since the 2000-01 season. Currently, Penn State leads the all-time series 76-72.

Ticket sales, game time, and television broadcast details will be announced at a later date. The Giant Center, located 215 miles east of Pittsburgh, is known for hosting a variety of events, including concerts, comedy shows, and professional ice shows, as well as being the home of the Hershey Bears Hockey Club.

Pitt returns four scholarship letterwinners and has signed several new players, including transfers and recruits from various high schools and international locations. This game will be a chance for fans to see the new roster in action as Pitt aims to continue building its team for the 2025-26 season.
