Authorities are investigating a crash involving a tanker truck in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on Monday (August 25). The accident occurred at the intersection of Camp Swatara and Pine Grove Roads around 11:00 a.m. The tanker reportedly failed to brake, causing it to roll through the intersection and flip over. The truck was carrying approximately two thousand gallons of window washer fluid, but only a small amount spilled onto the road.
The driver of the tanker was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. The Frystown Fire Company confirmed that the truck was authorized to drive on the road, as there are no restrictions for tanker-type vehicles in the area. According to Local21 News, this is the second crash in the area in just over a month, raising concerns among locals about the safety of the roads.
The intersection has been the site of previous accidents, including a recent incident where a tractor-trailer overturned and spilled 43,000 pounds of flour. The road was shut down for nearly five hours during that cleanup. Local21 reported that the Frystown Fire Company praised "a dozen good Samaritans" who helped during that incident.
Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of Monday's crash and are assessing the safety measures needed to prevent future accidents in the area.
