Potential Listeria Contamination In Ice Cream

A nationwide recall has been issued for ice cream products from Totally Cool, Inc., a Maryland-based company, due to potential listeria contamination. The recall affects products from several popular brands, including Hershey's, Jeni's, Friendly's, and Chipwich.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall after sampling revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. This bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. In pregnant individuals, it can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.

The recall includes over 60 different products, such as ice cream cakes, sandwiches, cones, and pints. Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of them immediately.

Totally Cool, Inc. has ceased production and distribution of the affected products and is taking preventive measures to address the issue. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.
