Which State in the US Drinks The Most?

A new study from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism’s found that America’s drinking habits are on a bit of an uptick. To get to the bottom of the figures, they first had to determine what a “healthy” amount of drinking would add up to. That number? 2.1-gallons each year…or 448-drinks annually.

So who drinks the most? In all, there are 41 states that were considered over that “healthy” mark, and 29 of those were 10% higher or more…and truly going pro with the stuff.

Here are the top ten states ranked by alcohol consumption per capita:

  • New Hampshire (4.76-gallons per capita)
  • Delaware (3.72-gallons)
  • Nevada (3.46-gallons)
  • North Dakota (3.26-gallons)
  • Montana (3.11-gallons)
  • Vermont (3.08-gallons)
  • Wisconsin (2.98-gallons)
  • Alaska (2.94-gallons)
  • Idaho (2.92-gallons)
  • South Dakota (2.87-gallons)
