422 will remain closed through the weekend. The Contractor discovered a 7 foot void and PennDOT will bring in a camera to investigate further. Officials hope to be able to temporarily fill it with grout early next week to reopen for the 4th of July holiday weekend.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation(PennDOT) today announced that on Friday, June 28, Lebanon County maintenance crews will close the westbound and eastbound directions of U.S. 422 near Palmyra Borough in North Londonderry Township. County crews have been monitoring a substantial pavement depression in the westbound lane since mid-May, after the region experienced heavy rains. Engineers will conduct a drilling inspection in the westbound lane as a result of additional settlement.
For safety purposes, this area will be shut down on Friday morning beginning at 7:00 AM. Depending on the findings, the roadway will either be open by the end of the day or closed until repairs can be made. A major repair plan is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 9.
The official detour, which will include signage to inform motorists, will involve Lingle Avenue to Palmyra Road to US 322 to PA 934.
