The National Weather Service Issues a Flash Flood Warning

PENNSYLVANIA (WHP) — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for northeastern Adams county, south-central Cumberland County, and west-central York County.

The warning is in place until 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

The alert says local law enforcement reported heavy rain and flash flooding across the area around 6:39 a.m., with 1-2 inches of rainfall.

An additional .5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned areas.

Some areas that will experience the flash flooding include Hampton, Lake Meade, New Oxford, York Springs, Heidlersburg, Hunterstown, Franklintown, Idaville and Gardners, the National Weather Service says.

The agency warned anyone in the areas to "turn around, don't drown" if you encounter any flood waters.

AFTERNOON CLEARING:

The day will start off gloomy, but the clouds should burn off through the afternoon allowing for more sunshine. A stray shower or isolated thunderstorm will be possible, but most areas should stay mainly dry today and it will turn a lot warmer with highs around 80.

TOMORROW: WEATHER WATCH DAY:

More t'storms are expected to fire up tomorrow and some will be here in time for the morning commute. Gusty winds and isolated downpours that could lead to areas of flash flooding will be the main threat, especially after our recent heavy rains.

WEEKEND FORECAST:

It will be warm once again on Saturday with more chances for scattered thunderstorms. After the cold front finally passes it will be very pleasant on Sunday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 70s.
