A nationwide recall of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula has been initiated following reports of infant botulism in ten states. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that 13 infants were hospitalized after consuming the formula, although no deaths have been reported. Symptoms of infant botulism include poor feeding, constipation, and respiratory difficulties, which can lead to serious complications if untreated.
The recall affects two specific batches of the formula with "use by" dates of December 1, 2026. Parents are advised to check the batch code on the bottom of the can and dispose of any affected products immediately. ByHeart, based in New York, has emphasized that the recall is a precautionary measure, as no direct link between their formula and the botulism cases has been confirmed. The company is offering free replacements for discarded products.
According to the FDA, botulism is a rare but serious illness caused by Clostridium botulinum spores, which can be found in soil and dust. The affected states include New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Arizona, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington. Parents concerned about symptoms in their infants should seek immediate medical attention.
For more information, parents can visit ByHeart's website or contact their customer service. The FDA continues to investigate the outbreak to ensure the safety of infant nutrition products.
