One man’s fun is another man’s offense.Sarah Hyland found this out the hard way. In case you missed it, she posted a picture of herself and several friends goofing around in a wedding photo booth. The photo features three couples with the caption, “#MCM to the men who love and treat their ladies like queens.”
The “man crushes” – including Hyland’s fiancé,Wells Adams– were grabbing their clearly-consenting women. The ladies were making faces and the whole thing, while definitely not suitable for work, was all in fun.
However, some of the “Modern Family” star’s fans failed to see the humor in the shot. One said, “This is completely sick. Strong #MeToo vibes. What is it with LA and everyone being a creep?” Another said, “Like queens [equals] like objects? The dissolution of patriarchal gender relations can't come soon enough.” When the backlash got out of control, Sarah allegedly deleted comments from a particularly nasty commenter.
- And yes, some people got the joke. “Do you even know what the #MeToo campaign was about?” a supporter asked. “These women are consenting to this photo. Know the difference.” Another person summed the situation up perfectly with, “Some people’s need to have an outrageous opinion online without making an actual point is a lot more problematic than this photo.”
