After a battle with colon cancer, the 71-year-old actress passed away yesterday. Her friends paid tribute on social media, like John Travolta saying, "Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had."
Tavolta and Alley worked on many projects together over the long career in film and TV. Most notably, "Look Who's Talking" the film series from the 90's.
Alley's children said this of their late mother on social media: ""As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother."
She was beloved by her peers and adored by her fans that had been with her since "Cheers". Her career that spanned several decades got her 2 Emmy's, 2 People's Choice awards and even a Golden Globe.
Travolta shared some beautiful pictures of the woman he cared so deeply for:
Ted Danson, who worked with Alley for many years on Cheers, was heartbroken with the news. He wrote, "I was on a plane today and did something I rarely do. I watched an old episode of 'Cheers.' It was the episode where Tom Berenger proposes to Kirstie, who keeps saying no, even though she desperately wants to say yes. Kirstie was truly brilliant in it. Her ability to play a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown was both moving and hysterically funny. She made me laugh 30 years ago when she shot that scene, and she made me laugh today just as hard. As I got off the plane, I heard that Kirstie had died. I am so sad and so grateful for all the times she made me laugh. I send my love to her children. As they well know, their mother had a heart of gold. I will miss her."
Jamie Lee Curtis has a great tribute for her friend and fellow actress. She wrote, "She was a great comic foil in @tvscreamqueens and a beautiful mama bear in her very real life. She helped me buy onesies for my family that year for Christmas. We agreed to disagree about some things but had a mutual respect and connection. Sad news."
Actor Tim Allen took to Twitter on Monday to honor Alley. "A sweet soul pass on in Kristie Alley. Sad, sad news. Prayers for all her family," Allen wrote.
And Kristin Chenoweth took to Instagram to share her disbelief in Alley's passing. She wrote "I love you, Kirstie. I will see you again someday. I can’t believe you’re gone."
For sure an icon for anyone who grew up in the 90's and she did it with class and grace! God bless Kirstie's family and thank you for the gift that we all got to share.
