A Millionair Moron... How Does This Happen??

An accounting error caused a bank to deposit more than $1 million into a customer's account by mistake, but the customer made an even bigger mistake when she tried to keep it, and now she's under arrest.

33-year-old Kelyn Spadoni, a former sheriff’s dispatcher in Louisiana, noticed a $1.2 million deposit in her Charles Schwab brokerage account. She knew it was a mistake, so she moved the money into another bank account because she expected the bank would try to reclaim the money. She was right. Once the error was noticed by the bank, it tried to electronically reclaim the funds but was told the funds were no longer there. Spadoni ignored multiple attempts by the bank to contact her, and instead spent the money on a new car and a house.

The sheriff's office was notified of the theft and they arrested Spadoni and charged her with theft, bank fraud and illegal transmission of monetary funds. The bank has also sued her to recover the money and so far, about 75-percent of it has been returned.
