>>Investigation Launched into Why Man Shot Neighbor, Then Himself

(York, PA) -- Police are investigating a reported dispute that may have led a Spring Garden man to shoot his neighbor, then kill himself. The York County coroner says incident happened Saturday and the victim was 36-year-old Erin Walker . She was a social studies teacher and student advisor at Central York High School. The gunman's name was Daniel Berry. The school district's superintendent has sent a message to families saying counselors are available for any students who need to talk.

>> House Sends Bill To Senate that Would Keep Voter Rolls Updated

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has passed HB 2507 that would purge deceased voters from the rolls. The bill will allow for the use of information provided by the Election Registration Information Center (ERIC) to update the information; current law did not allow ERIC information to be used. ERIC is run by a nonprofit organization that helps states make their voter rolls as accurate as possible. House Bill 2507 now goes to the Senate for consideration.

>>Pennsylvania's Smaller Towns May be Granted More Taxing Power to Fund EMS

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A bill that's been introduced in the state house would allow second-class townships to increase their ambulance taxes. If HB 2601 becomes law, townships could increase their levy from point five mills to one point five mills for emergency services. The extra money would go toward training personnel and providing for worker compensation. If the tax would be greater than 1.5 mills, the increase would need to be approved by the voters of the township.

>>State Game Commission Begins Spraying For Spongy Moths

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Pennsylvania Game Commission has begun its yearly spraying operation to protect the trees and wildlife habitats from spongy moths. The operation is conducted across 62-thousand acres of state game lands. The invasive, rapidly spreading caterpillars feast on oak trees, completely stripping them of all foliage. The spongy moths were formerly known as "gypsy moths."

>>Little League World Baseball Series Expands Number of Teams This Year

(Williamsport, PA) -- Officials with the Little League Baseball World Series say they're expanding the number of teams that'll be able to compete this year. They say they simply want more kids and families to have the chance to have the experience. The last team expansion was 20 years ago when the series moved to 16 teams. The event begins its 75th year of competition when the series kicks off August 17th and ends August 28th.

>>Bill Aims to Educate and Fight Hate Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A bill is being promoted in the State House that would raise awareness of hate crimes against people who are Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Representative Patty Kim says House Bill 1917 would allow teachers to have curriculum about people from that part of the world that would help students understand about their lives and who they are. The legislation was introduced last year but hasn't come up for a vote in the House yet. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

>>Gunman, Victim Identified from Walmart Shooting Sunday

(York, PA) -- Newberry Township Police have released the name of the man who they say shot and injured another person at the Walmart in York on Sunday. Pedro Rosado-Fernandez of Dover Township, York has been charged in the incident. He faces counts of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person for allegedly shooting Raphet Huertas in the arm. Police say Huertas is an ex-boyfriend of Rosado-Fernandez's girlfriend. Officials say more than 45 police officers and several ambulances responded to the original call because it had gone out as an active shooter response.

>>Victim Identified in West Manchester Township Car Wash Shooting   

(West Manchester, PA) -- The York County Coroner is confirming the identity of a person who was shot at a car wash. Two people were shot early in the afternoon Friday at the West York Auto Spa Express off Carlisle Road. One of the victims is being treated at a local hospital, while Devin Zeigler of Springettsbury Township was pronounced dead. He was 24. The other victim who's being treated has not been identified. Police are still investigating. 

>>Former AG Sentenced for Violating Probation

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane has been sentenced for violating her parole due to her being arrested for driving drunk. She was on probation after serving time for leaking grand jury material and lying about it when in March of this year, she was arrested for drunk driving. On Monday, she was sentenced to two months to a year of jail time. She was given credit for time served and was to be paroled to a residential treatment center for alcohol use.

>>Some Area Pools Can't Open Due to Lack of Lifeguards

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Many pools are preparing to open for the summer season, but some areas say they won't be able to invite folks in due to a lack of lifeguards. Officials say several factors are affecting hiring including the time it takes to train prospective staffers and then get them certified. Some smaller cities are even lowering the age requirement for lifeguards down to 15 in order to get more of them hired. 

>>Harrisburg Senators Come Home for a Six-Game Stand

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Harrisburg's Double-A baseball team is returning home Tuesday for a six-game series. They'll be playing Altoona from then straight through Sunday afternoon. Various promotions will be in store each night including fireworks on Friday and Kids Running the bases on Sunday. 

>>Contractor Killed In Construction Accident At Lancaster Country Club

(Manheim Township, PA) -- A contractor in his 20s has died as he worked at the Lancaster County Club Monday afternoon. The county coroner hasn't released the man's name but confirms he was from Media, Delaware County. Officials are calling the incident a construction accident. Club administrators say golf will resume there Wednesday, though the Dogwood-Highlands course will be closed pending the completion of the death investigation.

>>Only One Member Remains on the Reading Redevelopment Authority

(Reading, PA) -- Only one person, Goslyn Fleming, remains on the Reading Redevelopment Authority after the resignation of the two other members. The Reading City Council voted to accept the resignations Monday night for Thomas Caltagirone and Wellington Santana. Both resigned after the removal of Ernest Schlegel, who served as chairman of the authority. On Monday night, the council didn't expound any further on what the next steps might be for the authority.

>>Two People Injured In Two-Car Collision In Lancaster County  

(West Lampeter Township) -- A car has had to be towed from the front porch of a house near the 700 block of Penn Grant Road in West Lampeter Township after it was involved in a two-car crash. Officials say the collision Monday afternoon sent two people to the hospital; their conditions aren't known. The cause of the crash also is unknown, but West Lampeter Township Police continue to investigate. 

>>Man, who Killed Boyfriend in Lancaster County, Dies in Prison

(Lancaster Co., PA) -- A statement from the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale says a Monroe County man has died in prison. Inmate Matthew Vanzandt, who was 33, was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday. An investigation will be conducted. Official records show that In 2019, he walked into an Allentown hospital covered in blood and told personnel that he had just killed his boyfriend, 31-year-old Ian Shannon at Shannon's home in Lancaster Township. Vanzandt was serving a 12-to 24-year sentence for his murder.

>> Pennsylvania Lottery Fast Play Ticket Worth More Than $285K Sold in Berks County

(Leesport, PA) -- Someone in Berks County is now more than a quarter of a million dollars richer. The Pennsylvania Lottery reports a Fast Play ticket worth over $285,000 was sold in Berks County Friday. The winning ticket for the Big Win game was purchased at the Rutter's on Enterprise Drive in Leesport. Officials say the holder of a winning Fast Play ticket should immediately sign the back of the ticket and call the lottery. Prizes must be claimed within one year of the ticket purchase date.

>>Allentown Lowers Part-Time, Seasonal Employment Age Requirement to 15

(Allentown, PA) -- Fifteen-year-olds are now eligible for part-time and seasonal employment in the City of Allentown. The city has lowered its age requirement from 16 to 15 for cashier and attendant positions and lifeguards for city pools. The city's communication manager says the change was made due to what she calls the pressure of a tight labor environment.
