State Senator Propose Making Election Day State, Municipal Holiday

(Reading, PA) -- State Senator John Kane of Chester says he'll soon propose a measure that would make election days a state and municipal holiday. The proposal would apply to days for primary, municipal, and general balloting. Kane says such an action could increase voter turnout. If passed, private sector employers will have to give two hours of unpaid leave on Election Day, and they could a one-thousand-dollar fine if they don't. Counties and school districts would also observe Election Day as a legal holiday.
