DEA Issuing Warning Over Powerful Animal Sedative

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is issuing a warning on the powerful animal sedative Xylazine. Federal officials say the drug has now turned up on the street in 48 states, including Pennsylvania. DEA agents say they are seeing the drug used to cut fentanyl as it has similar effects, but it is not an opiate, making Narcan ineffective for reversing overdoses. Governor Shapiro's office announced that Xylazine is being placed on the state's controlled substances list yesterday.
