Hershey Bears Win 12th Calder Cup

(Palm Springs, CA) -- The Hershey Bears have proven once again that they are the best team in the American Hockey League. The team won the AHL's Calder Cup Championship Wednesday night, beating the Coachella Valley Firebirds 3-2 in overtime of Game Seven. Connor McMichael and Hendrix Lapierre scored goals in regulation, with Mike Vecchione scoring the dramatic series-ender in overtime. Goalie Hunter Shepard was named postseason MVP and accepted the Jack Butterfield Trophy at the game's conclusion. It's the twelfth time in franchise history the Bears have won the Calder Cup -- an AHL record. The championship marks the second Calder Cup for head coach Todd Nelson.
