>>Bill on Fees for Electric Car Owners Gets State House Approval

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Legislation that would increase fees for Pennsylvanians who own electric vehicles has been approved by a State House committee. The measure, which passed the state Senate in June, would set an annual "road user charge" of 290-dollars for non-commercial EVs. The fee would replace an existing alternative fuels tax that's based on the amount of electricity an EV uses. If enacted, state officials say the new charge would raise over nine-million-dollars each year from the state's 33-thousand non-commercial EVs.
