PA Bill Would Create Screening Process To Identify Struggling Readers

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A Pennsylvania bill is aiming to prevent students from falling behind in reading. The State Senate Education Committee approved a bill that would create a screening process to identify struggling readers and would implement plans to prevent children from falling behind. Senator Ryan Aument says the state needs to invest in K-through-12 education by making sure kids are reading proficiently by grade three. According to last year's PSSA scores, almost half of Pennsylvania students are not scoring as "Proficient." The bill is now heading to the full Senate for consideration.
