Army To Cut 24K Jobs

(Washington, DC) -- The U.S. Army is cutting 24-thousand jobs. A new Army document says the jobs are being cut as the Pentagon shifts away from the war against terrorism and instead focuses on countering Chinese and Russian forces. The job cuts will reduce the number of soldiers from an estimated 494-thousand to 470-thousand. About three-thousand positions will be cut from Special Operations forces. The Army chief of staff told reporters on Tuesday that the reductions are coming from areas that, in his words, are "not going to make us successful on the battlefield."
