Food Banks Prepare For Influx As WIC Faces Budget Shortfall (Harrisburg, PA) -- Food Banks are preparing to feed more families, as the federal assistance food program for Women, Infants, and Children is facing a budget shortfall of roughly one-billion dollars. Central Pennsylvania Food Bank CEO Joe Arthur says they've been preparing pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters to expect more people. The non-profit research group, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities says it expects nearly two million eligible parents, and kids could be turned away by September if the WIC isn't fully funded. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is hopeful that Congress will pass a full federal fiscal budget soon.
