(Harrisburg, PA) -- Pennsylvania's student-teacher stipend program is too popular. State officials say the program, which pays student teachers up to 15 thousand-dollars, had enough money for as many as 700 teachers. Last week, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency says it received three thousand applications in just a matter of hours. That means many student teachers won't have a spot in the program next year. The PHEAA says the student teacher stipend program is designed to fight against Pennsylvania's teacher shortage.
