2023 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Checks To Be Distributed Starting July 1st

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has extended the deadline for older adults and residents with disabilities to apply for property tax and rent rebates. The new deadline for applications, originally set for June 30, is now December 31, 2024. The rebates are part of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program, which aims to provide financial relief to eligible residents.

The PTRR program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians aged 65 and older, widows and widowers aged 50 and older, and people with disabilities aged 18 and older. The amount of rebate varies depending on the income of the applicant, with a maximum standard rebate of $1,000 for those with an income of $0 - $8,000.

So far, the state has received approximately 445,000 rebate applications this year, a 29% increase from the same period in 2023. This includes nearly 80,000 first-time applicants. The Department of Revenue has already processed and approved 92% of these applications. The remaining applications either have errors or require additional information.

Rebates that have been approved for payment will be distributed starting July 1, as required by law. The PTRR program is funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery and gaming revenues
