Dutch Wonderland, along with several other Pennsylvania theme parks, has been sold to Herschend Family Entertainment. The sale, announced on Tuesday (March 18), includes Kennywood, Idlewild Park & SoakZone, and Sandcastle Water Park. Herschend, a family-owned company based in Atlanta, Georgia, is acquiring these properties from Parques Reunidos, the parent company of Palace Entertainment.
The acquisition allows Herschend to expand its presence in the United States, while Parques Reunidos focuses on its European market. Herschend is known for owning more than 24 theme parks, aquariums, and resorts in North America, including Dollywood in Tennessee and Silver Dollar City in Missouri.
According to PhillyBurbs, the sale will double Herschend's portfolio, adding over 20 theme parks, water parks, campgrounds, and entertainment centers. Herschend plans no immediate changes to the operations of these properties and is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for employees, guests, and communities.
