A York County spa owner, Xiu Mei Wang, has been arrested for allegedly promoting prostitution at Yilian Spa. The 60-year-old faces multiple charges, including promoting prostitution and corrupt organizations, following a 2024 investigation by Carroll Township Police. The investigation began after a local man reported being offered sexual favors in exchange for money during a visit to the spa in September 2024. He declined the offer and contacted the police.
According to Local 21 News, police found evidence of prostitution through online reviews and surveillance of the spa. Officers executed a search warrant on December 20, 2024, discovering over $6,000 in cash, six cellphones, a disguised condom dispenser, and medicinal creams for sexually transmitted diseases. They also found that the spa's staff lived on-site, which is a common practice among establishments offering illicit services.
The property owner expressed concerns about the spa's unusual hours and its strictly male clientele. Wang, who took over the business in late 2023, is currently awaiting her preliminary hearing. The case highlights ongoing issues with illicit activities in some massage parlors and the challenges authorities face in curbing such practices.
