Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc., based in Oxnard, California, has issued a voluntary recall of 1,587 cases of its Marketside Celery Sticks due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects celery sold at Walmart stores across 30 states, including Alabama, California, and New York. The recall was initiated after the Georgia Department of Agriculture found Listeria in a sample from a Georgia store.
The recalled celery sticks are sold in 4-count, 1.6-ounce bundles, marked with a UPC code 6 81131 16151 0 and a lot code P047650. Although the product's "Best if Used by" date was March 23, 2025, some consumers may have frozen the celery for later use. Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, headache, and nausea, and the infection can lead to miscarriages in pregnant women.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. Consumers who have purchased the affected celery should discard it immediately. The recall does not impact other products from Marketside or Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. For more information, consumers can visit the FDA website.
