Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) has announced its busiest quarter in history, with over 134,555 passengers in March 2025, marking a 16.8% increase from March 2024. This surge contributed to a record-breaking first quarter, with 347,813 passengers, a 13.7% increase from the previous year. According to ABC27, this growth is attributed to the convenience of HIA, increased airline seat availability, and a robust regional economy.

Timothy J. Edwards, executive director of the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority, stated that Central Pennsylvanians prefer using HIA over larger airports. Airlines offered 15% more seats this quarter compared to last year, and the airport is preparing for a strong second quarter with nearly 250,000 departing seats from April through June.

In addition to increased passenger traffic, HIA is undergoing several upgrades. As reported by Central Pennsylvania Business Journal, new food and beverage options, including Crafted Harrisburg and Great American Bagel, have been introduced. Renovations at Dunkin’ and Subway have been completed, while Starbucks is undergoing a remodel.

Further improvements planned for later this year include new jet bridges, updated restrooms in Concourse B, new escalators, and parking garage repairs. These enhancements are part of HIA's "Taking Flight" initiative, aimed at increasing flights and attracting more businesses to the area, as noted by Yahoo News.
