An 18-wheeler crashed into an overhead sign pole on Interstate 83 in York County, Pennsylvania, on Monday (June 9). The accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. near the Fishing Creek exit, causing significant damage to the truck and the sign structure. The tractor-trailer's cab wrapped around the pole, shifting its base. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be cut out by rescue teams. His condition remains unknown.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reported that the combined weight of the pole and sign was 7,000 pounds. To safely remove the structure, a crane was brought in, and Interstate 83 northbound was temporarily closed twice for about 20 minutes each time. CBS 21 noted that the crane was expected to arrive at the scene around 3 p.m.
The highway was eventually cleared, and the right lane was anticipated to reopen by 8:30 p.m. As CBS 21 News reported, this incident led to an extensive rescue operation and cleanup effort. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
