Miller Still Weighing Republican Mayoral Nomination

Dan Miller, Harrisburg's city treasurer, is contemplating whether to accept the Republican nomination for the upcoming mayoral election. Although Miller, a Democrat, lost the Democratic primary to incumbent Mayor Wanda Williams by just 80 votes, he received enough write-in votes from Republicans to secure their nomination. Despite this, Miller has not yet decided to run as a Republican, stating, "I am not a Republican," but acknowledging the potential for a "runoff election between the top two candidates" against Williams.

Miller is gauging community support through organizing meetings at Historic Harrisburg in Midtown. He has expressed concerns about the city's current state, pointing to issues like incomplete projects and uncollected trash receipts. "If I were the mayor, that would be a top priority," Miller said, emphasizing his focus on safe streets, stable finances, and business opportunities.

According to CBS21, Miller does not expect official support from the Republican committee in Harrisburg, where Democrats significantly outnumber Republicans. However, he remains optimistic, citing examples of successful party-switching candidates in other cities.

The general election will take place in November, and Miller's name will appear on the ballot unless he withdraws. Mayor Williams, who cited affordable housing as a key achievement, has not commented on Miller's potential candidacy.
