Pennsylvania Launches Online Pardon Application System

Pennsylvania and its counties

Pennsylvania has launched an online application system for pardon requests, making the process more accessible and transparent. The State Board of Pardons introduced the online form earlier this week, allowing individuals to apply for clemency through the Board's website. Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, who chairs the Board, emphasized that the new system will ease the application process for many who seek a second chance.

The online application is part of a broader effort to modernize and streamline the pardon process. According to the official Pennsylvania government website, the Board has also introduced a Spanish-language application and plans to translate the form into 17 other languages. Additionally, the Board will use AI technology to analyze hand-written applications, reducing the need for manual retyping by staff.

Since Lieutenant Governor Davis took office, the Board has recommended over 1,000 pardons to Governor Josh Shapiro. This initiative aligns with the Shapiro-Davis Administration's commitment to providing second chances to deserving individuals.

The new online system aims to eliminate barriers faced by applicants, such as the inability to print or mail documents. As reported by WCCS Radio, the online application is seen as a significant step forward in making the clemency process more efficient and empathetic.
