Sinkhole Causes Crash in Lancaster County, No Injuries Reported

A sinkhole opened up on Harrisburg Pike and Route 741 in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, late Wednesday night (June 18), causing a vehicle to fall in and crash. The sinkhole, estimated to be about 10 feet by 10 feet, also damaged an ambulance. Despite the dramatic incident, there have been no reports of injuries.

According to emergency dispatchers, the sinkhole was first reported around 10:52 p.m. Crews from East Hempfield Township police and fire departments responded to the scene. By Thursday morning (June 19), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) took over the repair efforts. Harrisburg Pike's eastbound lanes remain closed between Hemlock Drive, Penn Medicine Drive, and Good Drive as repairs are underway.

Local21 News reported that the sinkhole incident has not resulted in any injuries, according to dispatch confirmations on Thursday morning.

Authorities are working to ensure the road is safe for travel as soon as possible. Motorists are advised to check live traffic conditions on PennDOT's 511PA for updates.
