Pennsylvania Congressman Dan Meuser has expressed strong support for the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, describing them as "justified and necessary." The strikes, which targeted sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, were carried out early Sunday (June 22) and aimed to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Meuser stated that these sites were integral to a regime that funds terror, destabilizes the region, and poses a threat to the U.S. and its allies. He emphasized that a nuclear-armed Iran would endanger Israel and global stability, putting countless lives at risk.
Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania also commented on the situation, assuring the public that there is no threat to the state and emphasizing the importance of avoiding further escalation. Shapiro highlighted the need for diplomacy to prevent a prolonged conflict in the Middle East. He also praised the precision and success of the U.S. Armed Forces in executing the mission.
U.S. Senator Dave McCormick, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on the Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counter-terrorism, echoed Meuser's sentiments, stating that the strikes were a necessary step to ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons. Both Meuser and McCormick acknowledged President Donald Trump's leadership in the decision to conduct the airstrikes, which followed a series of Israeli strikes aimed at Iran's nuclear program.
The Iranian government has indicated it reserves the right to retaliate, raising concerns about potential further conflict in the region. The U.S. and Israeli officials have stated that the use of American stealth bombers and specialized bombs was crucial to targeting the fortified nuclear sites buried deep underground.
