>Tips For Protecting Pets From The Heat
(Undated) -- With much of Western Pennsylvania under an extreme heat warning and high temperatures in the area forecasted to be above 90-degrees for the next couple of days, the Humane Society is offering tips on keeping your pets safe. They say to be aware that even a cracked window is not enough to keep your animal cool inside a stopped vehicle where the inside temperature can go from 85-degrees to 120 in a matter of minutes. Pet exercise time outdoors should be limited to early morning and nighttime hours when possible and folks should make sure the animal has ample access to cool water. They also say to be mindful of any amount of time your dog spends on pavement as hot asphalt can overheat the animal and burn their paw pads which can be highly sensitive.
