Nissan Recalls Vehicles Over Engine Failure Risk

Nissan has announced a recall of over 480,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada due to a potential manufacturing defect that could lead to engine failure. The recall affects certain models of the Nissan Rogue from 2021 to 2024, the Nissan Altima from 2019 to 2020, and the Infiniti QX50 from 2019 to 2022, as well as the 2022 Infiniti QX55. These vehicles are equipped with specific "VC-Turbo" engines, which may have defective engine bearings that could cause engine damage and possibly lead to failure while driving, increasing the risk of crashes.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), engine bearing failures tend to develop over time, giving drivers warning signs such as abnormal noises, rough running, and warning lights on the dashboard. Nissan has stated that a remedy is available and affected vehicle owners will receive notification letters by August 25, instructing them to bring their vehicles in for inspection and necessary repairs at no cost.

In an emailed statement, Nissan emphasized that this recall is part of its "ongoing commitment to customer safety." The company will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris and repair or replace the engine if necessary. Owners can also check if their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting the NHTSA website or using Nissan's recall lookup tool.
