Police Want Suspect In ATM Skimmers Incident

Police in York County, Pennsylvania, are searching for a suspect involved in an ATM skimming scam. The incident took place last month at a Rutter's Convenience Store in Spring Grove Borough. Surveillance footage captured a man attaching skimming devices to two ATM machines, according to CBS21.

The skimming devices collected and copied personal credit card and bank account information from unsuspecting users. The York County Regional Police Department has urged anyone with information about the suspect to contact them at 717-741-1259 or email Officer Joseph Shuck at jshuck@ycrpd.org. Tips can also be submitted through the department's Crimewatch platform.

ATM skimming is a growing concern, with the FBI warning that it costs U.S. banks hundreds of millions of dollars each year. Skimming devices are often placed over point-of-sale terminals, capturing card information as users swipe their cards. To avoid falling victim to such scams, users are advised to inspect card readers for loose parts or damage and to give the reader a light shake to check for tampering.
