Two Found Dead in York County Fire Died from Gunshots

Authorities in York County, Pennsylvania, have identified two individuals found dead in a house fire as victims of gunshot wounds. The victims, 41-year-old Jennifer Troch and 54-year-old Michael Shores Jr., were discovered in a burning home in Stewartstown Borough on Sunday morning (August 3). Autopsies revealed both died from gunshot wounds to the head, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

Emergency responders were called to the scene on North Main Street around 6 a.m., where they encountered significant smoke and flames. Firefighters forced entry to the second floor, where Troch and Shores were found unconscious. Despite life-saving efforts and transport to WellSpan York Hospital, both were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Fire Marshal and the Southern Regional Police Department. The manner of death, whether homicide, suicide, or accidental, has not yet been determined.

During the fire response, a firefighter was injured after falling through a hole in the floor but is expected to recover. The building, previously a bank and library, had been converted into a private residence.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details. As the community awaits more information, a small memorial has been placed at the scene.
