The Dauphin County Sheriff's Office in Pennsylvania has launched a new app to enhance community engagement and safety. The free app, available on both Android and iOS platforms, provides residents with quick access to important information, such as news alerts and a list of the county's most wanted individuals. Users can also submit anonymous tips about suspicious activities, making it easier for the community to assist law enforcement.
Sheriff Nicholas Chimienti emphasized the app's role in connecting with the public, stating, "We are all unfortunately attached at the hips to our phones, and what a great way to use this app to connect with people and have them connect with us." The app was inspired by a similar initiative from the York County Sheriff's Office and was funded by Act 8 grant funds, with coordination by Jean Marfizo King, the register of wills.
The app also includes a feature to view registered sex offenders in the area, further enhancing public safety. Sheriff Chimienti mentioned plans to collaborate with local departments to share information effectively.
Residents can download the CRIMEWATCH app to stay informed about crime in their area and to follow updates from the Dauphin County Sheriff's Office, according to Crimewatch PA. This initiative is part of a broader effort to keep the community safe and informed.
