Marilena Falkenbury, a former office manager at House's Outdoor Services in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, faces serious charges for allegedly embezzling nearly $40,000. Police say the 50-year-old Maryland resident made unauthorized transfers from the company's bank accounts to her personal account while employed there.

Falkenbury worked at the company from December 6, 2021, until she took a medical leave in May 2023 and never returned. She was given power of attorney over the business's bank account when hired, which she allegedly exploited to conduct unauthorized transactions. According to court documents, the company's owner alerted police in September 2024 after noticing suspicious financial activity.

Financial records revealed multiple deposits, withdrawals, and 24 transfers linked to an account Falkenbury opened shortly after her hiring. In total, she is accused of stealing $40,670.90. The criminal complaint details her alleged actions, including creating false payroll checks and manipulating financial records.

Falkenbury has been charged with 33 offenses, including theft, receiving stolen property, forgery, and computer trespass. She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Annie Gomez Shockey, who set her unsecured bail at $50,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 2.

ABC27 and Yahoo News provide further details on the case.
