A woman is in custody after driving a minivan into a crowd at the Kipona Festival in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Monday night (September 1). The crash injured three people, including a child, a woman in a wheelchair, and a public works employee. All three victims are reported to be in fair condition at a local hospital.
According to WHP-TV, the woman drove through barriers and "anything in her way" before entering the festival on Cranberry Street. Witnesses described the shocking scene, with one saying, "You see this on national news, never thought it would happen here at home."
The incident occurred just after 6 p.m., and police quickly apprehended the driver after she drove six blocks, hitting several objects along the way. Harrisburg Police Chief Thomas Carter assured the public, stating, "Harrisburg is still a safe city. We will investigate and see what we can do to make it safer."
Front Street remains partially blocked off as officers continue their investigation into the incident. The names and ages of the victims have not been released. The driver is currently being questioned by police to determine the motive behind the crash.
