York Shooter Identified as Stalker with AR-15

Authorities in York County, Pennsylvania, have identified the suspect involved in a deadly shooting incident as Matthew Ruth, 24, from Hanover. Ruth allegedly stalked a residence in North Codorus Township before shooting five police officers, killing three, while they attempted to serve a warrant on Wednesday (September 17).

According to CNN, the incident began when Northern York Regional Police officers were called to a home on Haar Road late Tuesday night after a resident reported seeing a man with binoculars on her property. The man, described as a white male wearing camouflage, was captured on a trail camera with an AR-15 rifle slung across his chest. The resident's daughter identified the man as her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Ruth, who she suspected of setting her pickup truck on fire in August.

Despite efforts to locate Ruth, officers were unable to find him and subsequently filed for a warrant. The following day, when officers attempted to serve the warrant, Ruth opened fire, resulting in the tragic deaths of three officers. Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation and are expected to release further details on Thursday (September 18).
