Lawmakers Respond to Fatal Officer Shooting in York County

Pennsylvania lawmakers are responding to the tragic shooting of three police officers in York County on Wednesday (September 17). The officers, Detective Sergeant Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser, were all members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department. U.S. Senator John Fetterman emphasized the inherent risks of law enforcement, stating, "we can't ever, ever forget how dangerous the job of law enforcement is." Attorney General Dave Sunday, who previously served as York County District Attorney, described the shooting as "unfathomable."

The incident began with reports of officers being shot, leading to a lockdown of a local school district. The chaos ended with a press conference announcing the deaths of the three officers and the hospitalization of two others. The shooter, whose identity was revealed at a press conference on Thursday, was killed in the gun battle. According to CBS 21, a procession of police and fire vehicles accompanied the fallen officers from the scene to the York County Prison, where the county coroner’s office is located.

Vigils were held on Thursday night to honor the fallen officers, including one at Spring Grove Alliance Church, which drew more than 100 attendees. As the investigation continues, the community and officials are grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
