Both Officers Injured In Shooting In Satisfactory Condition

The two officers injured in last week's York County shooting are recovering well, according to WellSpan Health officials. Initially hospitalized in critical condition after a suspected ambush on Wednesday (September 17), both officers are now in satisfactory condition. The incident occurred when officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant in North Codorus Township.

The ambush resulted in the deaths of three Northern York County Regional Police detectives: Detective Sergeant Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser. The surviving officers include a Northern York County Regional Police detective and York County Deputy Sheriff David Godfrey. The gunman, identified as Matthew Ruth, was also killed during the exchange of gunfire.

The Pennsylvania State Police reported that the officers were serving a warrant for stalking and other charges when Ruth opened fire. The attack was described as a calculated ambush, with Ruth firing from inside the residence as officers approached.

David Godfrey, one of the injured officers, is a lieutenant with the York County Sheriff's Department. Known for his dedication, Godfrey has previously served in the Marines and worked with a K-9 partner, inspiring a book titled 'Captain Dargo: Born to Serve.'

The investigation into the ambush is ongoing.
