In Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, a bus driver has been charged for allegedly carrying a firearm while on duty. On Tuesday (September 23), Lower Paxton Township police reported that 39-year-old Tonya Hymon had a handgun in a holster on her hip while picking up students in the Central Dauphin School District. The incident was reported by another bus driver who noticed the weapon and informed Krise Transportation, the company employing Hymon. The police were notified, and the firearm was removed without incident.
Hymon, from Steelton, Pennsylvania, has been charged with possessing a weapon on school property, a misdemeanor offense. She has since been terminated from her position at Krise Transportation. According to Superintendent Eric Turman, Hymon completed her morning route with the firearm, but no students reported seeing it. Security cameras confirmed that the weapon remained in its holster throughout her route.
Krise Transportation and the Central Dauphin School District have emphasized their commitment to student safety. Turman stated, "The safety and security of the students entrusted to our care is—and will always remain—our highest priority." The company is implementing new measures, including "no weapons" signage and retraining employees on safety protocols, to prevent similar incidents in the future. Hymon is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for October.
