A tragic house fire during a child's birthday party in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, has claimed its fifth victim. Twenty-three-year-old Tailing Nunez died from injuries sustained in the fire, which broke out last Sunday (September 28) at a duplex on Church Street. The fire, deemed accidental, started from an electrical outlet on the first floor.
Lebanon Mayor Sherry Capello confirmed that the fire resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including three children. The victims have been identified as Amarri Morris-Morales, aged one, Veyda Pereyra, aged four, Jaeden Nunez, aged 17, and 73-year-old Josefina Estevez. The fire department arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, with reports of people trapped inside. Firefighters managed to rescue three victims, who were then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, but unfortunately, two additional victims were later recovered from the home.
The community has come together in the wake of the tragedy. A prayer vigil was held on Monday night at Love On the Streets Church to support the victims' families. Mayor Capello expressed deep sorrow for the loss, stating, "Words cannot capture the depth of our sorrow for their loss. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those impacted by this devastating event."
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal's Office is assisting in the investigation. The Red Cross is providing aid to the affected families, and a GoFundMe page has raised over $20,000 for the victims. Donations are also being collected by Bag of Hope in Lebanon to support the families in need.
