State Police Report Spike in Holiday Crashes and Fatalities

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) reported a significant increase in vehicle crashes and fatalities during the recent holiday season. Between December 24 and 28, troopers responded to 1,007 crashes across the state, a stark rise from the 598 crashes recorded during the same period in 2024. Tragically, six of these incidents were fatal, marking a concerning change from the previous year, which saw no fatalities.

The PSP attributed some of these crashes to impaired driving, noting that 53 of the accidents involved drivers under the influence. Troopers made 207 DUI arrests over the five-day period. Additionally, there was a notable rise in speeding citations issued during the holiday weekend.

The statistics reflect a broader concern for road safety during the holiday season, as the PSP continues to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices. The Shapiro Administration remains committed to enhancing safety measures to protect Pennsylvanians on the roads.

The official report from the Pennsylvania State Police highlights the need for increased vigilance and adherence to traffic laws to prevent such incidents in the future.
